Huntington, WV, August 25, 2005 - John Patrick Grace of The Publishers Place announced today the publication of The Shiloh Shepherd Story: Against The Wind...A Breed Is Born, by Tina M. Barber and Cinnamon Kennedy. Lavishly illustrated, the 208 page book details the struggles that Ms. Barber has overcome in her 40-year attempt to create a breed that would live up to her vision of the ultimate companion dog. Ms. Barber recounts the difficulties in creating her own genetic lines as well as her fight to enforce the standards needed to protect the strength and health of the breed she has developed. While overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles with immense resilience and perseverance, Ms. Barber credits all success to God. This stirring and ultimately inspiring book is available now in a special limited edition, personally signed by the author.

The book may be ordered through Shiloh Enterprises:

We are pleased to make available brief excerpts and photos from each chapter of the book.

I have read the manuscript and this is what I can tell you about the book:

This book gives you, the reader, a good look behind the scenes, at what it takes to actually develop a new breed. This book is not just about a dog, but all of the dogs that contributed their genes, to make a mark on the real Shiloh Shepherd for decades to come!

This book tells the complete story, starting with the memories Tina brought back from Germany and her experiences with the many variations of the GSD in America, which led to her desire to produce better hips and larger dogs for her training program. The book shares her disappointments with some of the litters she was producing and about many of the dogs she was raising and training. It walks you right into her testimony & the pact she made with the Lord in 1974. From that point on it covers the trials and triumphs that she had to deal with along that road, sort of like the Biblical exodus through the wilderness. You will be witness to the battles that she had to deal with in the Promised Land, since the formation of the ISSR & SSDCA. The book paints the truth about her friendships and the betrayals she had to endure.

This book not only shares short stories about some of the dogs that set the foundation for this breed, but it also covers things that have never been revealed before. It's an emotional roller coaster that takes you on an unusual rare journey; it is a book that people will have a hard time putting down until they finish the story! And, yet it's not fully finished. All the Shiloh breeders are still living it, and many people will want to watch them as the journey continues toward this breed's full recognition! Like a marathon race, those that are not running it will still want to see what happens at the finish line!

You will cheer on the breeders of Shiloh Shepherds as you read this book, and will develop a kindred spirit for the REAL Shiloh Shepherd. You will laugh with Tina and her breeders, cry with them, and when you are finished reading the truth -- STAND with them!

I am so excited about the release of this wonderful, amazing book!

Just this morning, a woman in a pet store was admiring my ISSR Shiloh puppy, and said she had previously searched and searched for a book on Shilohs to learn more about this magnificent dog, with no luck.....BOY did I have great news to tell her, that THE book has just arrived!

Having had the privilege to peruse the draft of this book, I can say it is informative, fascinating, gripping. In this book you will follow the moving story of Tina's journey, and the past, the present, the future vision of the Shiloh shepherd. I cannot wait to get the finished version and read it cover to cover!

Even though I've read all the articles written by Tina through the years, this book will put it all together, all in one place. The release date can't get here soon enough for me!

It never fails, there is a small group of dissidents "out there" that have problems selling their UN-shiloh (GSD mixes) that they are trying to pass off as *real* Shiloh Shepherds. These people have managed to fool many that have not bothered to study all of the information that I have been placing on the Learning Center, or taking the time to investigate the true history behind this "breed" that is still under development.
That's why they seem to live for only one goal .... to viciously attack me on any open forum that they can find!! This has become an annoying "thorn" but it will never stop me from sharing the truth with anyone that wants to learn more about my dogs!!
Now when I read their redundant attacks, I can almost see the humor in their pitiful outbursts! Just like the foolishness that they tried to use to attack Jeff's blog with I totally believe in free speech, but I don't believe in allowing false slander to attack anyone, myself included!
Any slanderous posts planted here by those that are operating on the "dark side" will be removed! Although I believe in keeping this blog open to all comments, both good & bad from those that have ISSR dogs, and any sincere fanciers or potential future owners that would like to share their feelings here. All I ask is that you try to remain on the appropriate subject!!

I have been searching for the right dog for very long. My GSD was a soft kind soul. I wanted another soul just like him. I found the ISSR and read about the Shiloh Shepherds. I did this on and off for about 1-2 years. I am convinced that this is the dog for my family! Ms. Barber has committed her life to these amazing animals. I encourage all who are interested in Shilohs to read as much as possible about how these dogs were developed. Do not invest in knock offs. I have been waiting for a long time but only an ISSR will do.

PS--thanks so much Tina for calling me a slimeball. You are "so incredibly & ultimately inspiring". Which version of the Bible do you supposedly read?

Posts like those made by "RebelShiloh" above also will be deleted becasue not only are they insulting, but the poster must be ashamed to allow him/herself to be publicly identified. In the future all such posts will continue to be deleted.

Gina, I liked your post because it said everything I have been trying to convey to the "public" for decades!!

The Shiloh Shepherd is not just another "dog" .... they are extremely intelligent creatures with a special soul whose essence can't be described with words .... You just have to live with one in order to properly appreciate them!!
My publisher asked me to put in a few "stories" about some of the special dogs that I have had the privilege of sharing my life with ... and believe me, selecting only a *few* was not easy!! I certainly didn't want to go on & on raving about each of them, possibly boring the reader!
After all, we didn't want this book to run into thousands of pages, LOL.

However, for any readers here that may not be on our forum yet, I would like to encourage you to join so that you can read some real time Shiloh stories that are constantly being shared by many owners from coast to coast!!

I watched my computer all morning so I could be one of the first to order my copy of the book. I am so excited, I can't wait for it to arrive! I have an ISSR Shiloh Shepherd and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Tina Barber for giving us these wonderful dogs!

I have read bits and pieces of the manuscript - this really will be a fascinating story to read over and over again.

This book just confirms for me a choice I made back in 1999 - to stick with only the Original ISSR Shiloh Shepherd

THANK YOU for sharing your story, Tina.

This book is a must for any dog lover, especially breeders and Shiloh enthusiasts or those just curious about the breed. I'm so excited about and looking forward to this book. I have been reading up on this "breed under development" for a while now and have fallen in love with the breed and the people who surround it. I have been able to read excerpts from the book and feel as though I've smelled the delicious aroma of a kings meal and now I'm hungry to partake of it!
